El arranque del partido fue impreciso para Instituto; al igual que Peñarol pero que con el correr de los minutos lograron posicionase mejor en el juego. “La Gloria” tuvo desconcentraciones en su defensa que los de Mar de Plata aprovecharon para sacar ventaja. El rival con más eficacia e intensidad estuvo a 14 puntos de diferencia del albirrojo.
En el cierre del primer cuarto se lo vio mejor a Instituto que ajustó sus piezas y con dos triples seguidos del “Loku” comenzó a descontar. Los de Alta Córdoba tomaron confianza en sus lanzamientos y se acercaron cerrando los 10 minutos iniciales abajo por seis, 19-25.
“La Gloria” con un cambio de energías y teniendo piezas destacadas como Jackson y Chiarini empató el encuentro en 35 quedando 3:45 de irse al descanso. Mateo encestó un triple y por primera vez en el partido, Instituto pasó al frente en el tanteador y logró mantenerlo hasta el cierre del segundo cuarto. Peñarol descontó en los segundos finales con el doble de Gaines y la Gloria ganaba parcialmente por 46 a 44.
Encendidos con los triples, los cordobeses iniciaron el tercer capítulo y construyó la diferencia. Con tres triples consecutivos (Brussino, Cuello y Chiarini) el albirrojo sacó 8 de ventaja. Consiguieron tener el control de la cancha y se impusieron ante Peñarol. Faltando 2:39 se alejó por 11 tantos pero después del minuto pedido por Ramella, el rival se acomodó y con los lanzamientos de a tres achicó la distancia. El penúltimo cuarto terminó para Instituto por 73 a 69.
A “La Gloria” le costó mantener la posesión en el marcador. Se le vino Peñarol y alcanzó a los de Alta Córdoba. Con dos minutos del último capítulo, los de Ramella igualaron en 76 y el partido se volvió parejo. Instituto no consiguió frenar a su rival y no tuvo grandes sobresaltos.
En el final lo tuvo Chiarini para cerrar el encuentro pero no pudo anotar y al estar en 96 ambos elencos se definió el ganador en el suplementario. Lo tenía “La Gloria” pero Peñarol se llevó la victoria por la mínima, 105 a 106.
