Argentina recibirá mañana 218.000 dosis de la vacuna desarrollada por la Universidad de Oxford y el laboratorio AstraZeneca adquiridas a través del mecanismo Covax y hay versiones sobre el envío de varios millones más entre abril y junio, aunque en el Gobierno muestran cautela.
Está previsto que el cargamento llegue a las 07:10 de este domingo, a través de la aerolínea holandesa KLM, en un primer envío que forma parte de las nueve millones de dosis que el país comprometió a través del mecanismo Covax de la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS), según precisó el Gobierno días atrás.
El sistema Covax tiene como principal objetivo garantizar el “acceso equitativo mundial a una vacuna” contra el COVID-19, “con la que se protegerá especialmente a los trabajadores de la salud y a las personas que corren un mayor riesgo”, según señala la OMS.
Covax ofrece “dosis de vacunas para al menos el 20 % de la población de los países; una cartera de vacunas diversificada y gestionada activamente; entregar las vacunas tan pronto como estén disponibles; poner fin a la fase aguda de la pandemia; y reconstruir las economías”.
En tanto, hoy el laboratorio AstraZeneca filtró una información sobre la llegada en abril de un lote de 900.000 dosis de la vacuna británica, seguido por 3,5 millones en mayo y 5 millones en junio. Sin embargo, en el Gobierno evitaron confirmar esa información y optaron por esperar.
En caso de concretarse, esos envíos representarían alrededor del 40% de las más de 22 millones de dosis de esta vacuna compradas por el Gobierno al laboratorio.
