Un voraz incendio destruyó la planta superior y parte del frente del edificio del ex Cine San Martín (Independencia entre Garay y Rawson), donde actualmente avanzaba un proyecto inmobiliario. Los bomberos trabajaron durante más de dos horas hasta que pudieron controlar el fuego.
El incendio comenzó alrededor de las 23:30 del martes y los vecinos dieron aviso al Cuartel de Bomberos, que con tres dotaciones se acercó al lugar acompañados por personal de Defensa Civil. Si bien las causas no fueron especificadas aún, se señaló que el fuego se originó en la planta alta del edificio, la cual se desplomó, y tomó parte del frente.
De todos modos se vivieron momentos de zozobra cuando se escucharon algunas detonaciones, por lo que personal de Camuzzi Gas Pampeana también se acercó al lugar y se cortó el suministro de ese servicio en la zona, el cual sería repuesto durante este miércoles para evitar cualquier accidente de mayores dimensiones.
Alberto Gabba, el jefe de Bomberos Mar del Plata, informó a los medios que se están analizando diversas hipótesis y que recién en las próximas horas podría haber algún veredicto, una vez que se hayan terminado todas las tareas de enfriamiento y escombramiento y se puedan avanzar con las pericias.
Si bien el edificio estaba deshabitado, por estas horas se registran todos los rincones para descartar heridos. En ese sentido hay que señalar que los edificios contiguos fueron desalojados y que tampoco hubo que lamentar víctimas entre los vecinos.
El Cine San Martín fue una de las salas más antiguas de Mar del Plata, pero desde hace varias décadas había dejado de brindar esa actividad. En un primer momento funcionó como boliche, el muy popular Centro de Residentes Universitarios (CRU), y desde hace varios años estaba deshabitado.
Eso hasta que hace un tiempo fue adquirido por el Grupo Dinal para un emprendimiento inmobiliario, que se vio demorado a raíz del reclamo de un grupo de conservacionistas de la ciudad que buscaban proteger dos murales del pintor Juan Carlos Castagnino que había en las paredes del edificio.
Precisamente sobre ese tema se refirió Gabba, quien confirmó que se hará una revisión técnica para comprobar el estado de los murales.
