Eduardo López, médico infectólogo que integra el cuerpo de especialistas que asesoran al Gobierno frente a la pandemia de Covid-19, evaluó hoy que en aproximadamente un mes la variante Delta “va a empezar a ser circulación comunitaria” y remarcó la importancia de “aumentar el ritmo de vacunación”.
En diálogo con “Pan y Circo”, el ciclo que conduce Jonatan Viale por Radio Rivadavia, López señaló que “no hay” todavía circulación comunitaria de esa variante que preocupa a países con mayor nivel de vacunación “pero más temprano que tarde estas cepas que se empiezan a detectar es posible que empiecen a circular”.
“Yo calculo que en un mes o 40 días va a empezar a ser circulación comunitaria”, consideró el especialista, al tiempo que agregó que “por eso es fundamental tener a mucha gente completamente vacunada”.
López advirtió que “con una sola dosis no hay ninguna vacuna que contra la variante Delta esté por encima del 30, 40 o 50% (de inmunidad), pero con dos dosis sube bastante” y remarcó: “Hoy en día es fundamental vacunar con dos dosis, especialmente el adulto mayor”.
Consultado por el decreto del presidente Alberto Fernández que habilitó la adquisición de vacunas de Pfizer, Moderna y Johnson&Johnson y sobre la demora en destrabar esa negociación, el infectólogo señaló que “era necesario generar algo para que vacunas como esas lleguen al país, porque hubiese sido una picardía no tenerlas, son muy buenas”.
“Se tardó más de lo que uno hubiera deseado, estoy de acuerdo, es correcto, pero a su vez uno tiene que estar de acuerdo con la medida del Poder Ejecutivo”, subrayó López e insistió: “Lo más importante es aumentar el ritmo de vacunación, especialmente en los países de América Latina”.
En este sentido, sostuvo que “hoy en día, los países de América son los que dirigen la cantidad de casos” a nivel mundial y señaló que “América Latina está vacunando a un ritmo bajo, Argentina está vacunando a un ritmo bajo, de eso no hay ninguna duda”.
