El cierre masivo que están sufriendo los argentinos que tienen cuentas de inversión abiertas en Uruguay y en Estados Unidos se ha convertido, en estos días, en un nuevo foco de preocupación.
Es que no son pocas las entidades que han tomado la decisión de pedir una contrapartida documental que justifique cada ingreso de dinero. En caso contrario, pueden cerrar la cuenta.
Hay casos como el Wells Fargo, que decidió no atender más a clientes extranjeros en su banca de inversión, como medida de compliance tras una causa de fraude por la que tuvo que pagar ingentes multas.
A juicio de Mariano Sardáns, CEO de FDI, el problema es que la Argentina forma parte, junto a Venezuela, Trinidad y Tobago, República Dominicana, entre otros, están en la mira por parte de los propios bancos, a cuyos residentes prefieren evitar para no tener contingencias con dinero proveniente de delitos complejos, como el narcotráfico y la corrupción.
“Todo lo que hagan debe tener realidad económica, que significa que debe tener que ver con sus ingresos o porque vendió algún bien”, dice.
Rafael Di Giorno, de Proficio, señala que en el pasado era más fácil tener cuentas en el exterior a costo cero: “En la actualidad, en algunos bancos, sobre todo en los que tienen sede en Uruguay, les ponen un costo de mantenimiento de u$s 150 mensuales, que sólo se bonifican en cuentas que superen un cierto monto, como puede ser u$s 100.000“.
ALTERNATIVAS
Quienes más cuentas están cerrando son los bancos internacionales más grandes, que tienen presencia en Uruguay y en Estados Unidos.
Estas entidades son más exigentes con el origen de cada uno de los fondos que se acredita. En cambio, en los bancos pequeños de Miami es más fácil pasar inadvertido.
Daniela Wechselblatt, fundadora de DW Global Investments, precisa que el Wells Fargo decidió directamente no atender más cuentas de inversión a clientes extranjeros por el riesgo que les ocasiona a nivel compliance.
“Evalúan el riesgo versus retorno, entonces prefieren no hacerlo, mientras los otros grandes, como el Citi, JP Morgan y Merrill Lynch van subiendo los mínimos, a u$s 1 millón, u$s 2 millones o u$s 5 millones”, detalla.
“Las entidades financieras cambian las reglas de juego de un día para el otro porque cambian la estrategia comercial, y te cierran de golpe tu cuenta bancaria que la usás para tus negocios. Ven que un mercado tiene cuentas chicas, es de baja rentabilidad, entonces se van“, advierte Sardáns.
Esto ocurre porque los bancos corren el riesgo de altísimas multas, por lo que desde compliance aconsejan sacarse de encima a los clientes que pertenecen a países que se encuentran en zonas de riesgo.
Para las grandes entidades, tener cuentas de argentinos representa un negocio relativamente chico y muy riesgoso, por la contingencia de recibir multas multimillonarias por parte de los reguladores en caso de que se compruebe que ese dinero vino procedente de la corrupción.
Incluso, Sardáns comenta que en Uruguay suelen cerrar cuentas bancarias de argentinos porque hay clientes que van, depositan y luego extraen efectivo.
