El vuelo de la aerolínea KLM con las 218.000 dosis de Oxford/AstraZeneca del Fondo Global de Acceso a las Vacunas contra la Covid-19 (Covax) aterrizó este domingo en el aeropuerto internacional de Ezeiza.
Las vacunas fueron recibidas por autoridades del Ministerio de Salud junto a representantes de la Organización Panamericana de la Salud (OPS) en el país y de Unicef Argentina, informaron fuentes oficiales.
Con la llegada de este lote de AstraZeneca se inicia el proceso de recepción de las vacunas que ese mecanismo de distribución, creado por la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS), irá suministrando a la Argentina: el total comprometido para el país es de 9 millones de dosis.
Las 218.000 dosis que llegaron este domingo se suman a la provisión que ya tiene la Argentina de vacunas provenientes de Rusia (Sputnik V), China (Sinopharm) e India (Covishield, producida con transferencia de tecnología de Oxford/AstraZeneca).
Desde la cartera de Salud informaron que con esta tanda de dosis se seguirá avanzando “con el plan nacional de vacunación en los grupos priorizados”.
Desde la cartera de Salud, en relación a las vacunas provenientes del Fondo Covax, señalaron: “Hoy es un día importante porque se da inicio a la llegada de dosis a través del mecanismo Covax, iniciativa global que busca generar equidad en la distribución de las dosis para todos los países participantes”.
“Esto nos impulsa a seguir trabajando para cumplir con nuestro objetivo principal, que es disminuir la ocurrencia de formas graves y, consecuentemente, la mortalidad”, añadieron.
En tanto, el representante de la OPS y la OMS para la Argentina, el costarricense Enrique Pérez-Gutiérrez, calificó como “un logro enorme” la llegada a la Argentina de las primeras vacunas adquiridas a través del fondo Covax y agregó: “Esto es un logro enorme y producto de meses de mucho trabajo”.
“Es un paso muy importante, que permite seguir favoreciendo el acceso cada vez más equitativo a las vacunas, tanto aquí como en todo el mundo, sobre todo de quienes están más en riesgo”, añadió Pérez-Gutiérrez, profesional de la salud con un doctorado en Epidemiología.
En un mismo sentido se pronunció la representante de Unicef en Argentina, la italiana Luisa Brumana, médica con un máster en Epidemiología: “Covax representa una contribución importante para contener al virus y sus consecuencias a nivel mundial, sobre todo para acortar las brechas que existen entre los países que más fácilmente pudieron adquirir las vacunas y quienes se están quedando atrás”.
Las dosis de vacunas serán trasladadas, como es habitual, al operador logístico en camiones refrigerados especialmente acondicionados, para luego continuar el proceso hasta que lleguen a las 24 jurisdicciones (las 23 provincias más la Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires).
