El turismo mundial es una de las actividades económicas más afectadas por la pandemia del Covid-19. En Argentina, antes del cierre de global de fronteras, enero y febrero del 2020 comenzaban con números récords que auguraban un marcado crecimiento de las visitas obtenidas en 2019. Debido a las restricciones de viajes dentro del país se produjo una disminución aproximada del 68%, pero a través de medidas de sostenimiento del sector e incentivo a la demanda, la Argentina se mantuvo primera en el podio sudamericano.
Con el fin de acompañar al sector turístico nacional, el Ministerio de Turismo y Deportes que conduce Matías Lammens lanzó a fines del año pasado el Programa Pre-Viaje, destinado a fomentar las ventas turísticas para el 2021. Fueron más de 570.000 argentinos y argentinas los que hicieron uso de la iniciativa, que estuvo vigente hasta diciembre pasado. El 50% de los gastos realizados fueron en agencias de viaje, el 40% en alojamientos y el 9% en servicios de transporte.
En total, casi 13 millones de turistas recorrieron los distintos destinos del país durante la temporada de verano que registró momentos pico: el fin de semana largo de Carnaval, con más de 3 millones de turistas movilizados y ocupación plena en decenas de localidades; el cuarto fin de semana del año (23 y 24 de enero), con más de 2.4 millones de personas movilizadas por todo el país; y el fin de semana largo de Año Nuevo 2021, donde 2 millones de personas viajaron por la Argentina.
A nivel mundial, el informe indica una disminución de turistas entre los países más visitados del mundo. China perdió al 84% de sus visitantes con respecto al año anterior a la pandemia. Le siguen Tailandia con un 79,4%, España con 76,1%, Estados Unidos con 72 %, Turquía con 72,3%, Francia con 71,9%, Alemania con 63%, Reino Unido con 60,5%, Italia con 57,3% y por último México que perdió el 46,5% de sus visitantes en 2020.
La OMT prevé una recuperación a partir del segundo semestre de este año y, dentro de la región, la Argentina es una de las más predispuestas para que esto ocurra.
